Churna preparations are finely ground herbal powders made from single herbs or combinations of dried botanical materials. The herbs are cleaned, dried to specified moisture content, powdered through controlled mesh grinding, and blended in classical proportions. Churnas are among the most versatile Ayurvedic dosage forms — used both as standalone medicines and as base ingredients for other preparations. Kwath (Kashaya) preparations are concentrated aqueous decoctions made by boiling coarsely ground herbs in water until the volume reduces to one-quarter or one-eighth of the original, depending on the classical formula. Vati (tablets) and Gutika (pills) are solid oral dosage forms made by combining herbal powders with binding agents (typically honey, jaggery, or gum acacia), shaping into uniform tablets, and drying under controlled conditions. In classical Ayurveda, Vati preparations are preferred for herbs that require precise dosing and extended shelf life. Arishta and Asava are self-generated alcoholic preparations unique to Ayurveda. Arishta is prepared by fermenting herbal decoctions with jaggery and Dhataki flowers (Woodfordia fruticosa), while Asava uses cold infusions. The natural fermentation produces 5–10% self-generated alcohol that acts as both a preservative and a solvent for extracting additional active compounds. These preparations have long shelf lives and excellent bioavailability due to the alcohol-mediated extraction.

Avaleha (Lehya) and Paka preparations are semi-solid herbal confections made by cooking herbal decoctions or juices with sugar, jaggery, or honey until a thick jam-like consistency is achieved. The most widely known Avaleha is Chyawanprash — a polyherbal rasayana containing 40+ herbs. These preparations combine the therapeutic benefits of herbs with palatability, making them ideal for daily use formulations and Ayurvedic immunity products. Guggulu preparations are a special class of Ayurvedic formulations based on purified Guggulu (Commiphora wightii resin) combined with specific herbal powders. Bhasma preparations are calcined mineral, metal, or marine-origin materials that have been subjected to repeated cycles of Shodhana (purification) and Marana (incineration) until they are reduced to extremely fine, biocompatible particles. Classical texts describe Bhasma as achieving "Varitara" (floating on water) and "Rekhapurna" (filling finger creases) — indicating nano-to-micro particle size and extremely high surface area. Common Bhasma preparations include Praval Pishti (coral calcium), Godanti Bhasma (gypsum), and Mukta Pishti (pearl calcium).
